Now as much as I love R&S and Early Spongebob, you can't deny the long-lasting impact they made on Nick. Especially R&S.

I believe, like many, that Nick has been trying to duplicate the success that those two cartoons had. I mean, look at the amount of cartoons that have been made that starred two idiotic main characters, typically male, that go on wacky adventures. Don't forget screaming and the spotty backgrounds.

Some of the cartoons are decent imo. Breadwinners, Mighty B, and Sanjay and Craig come to mind. And artistically, their upcoming shows look interesting.

So, what do y'all think?

aren't any company basically always looking for their next big hit? :p

but yeah, in nick's case it's fairly clear. Spongebob has been going on for so long, much longer than it reasonably should have at this point, just because nick can still squeeze money out of it.

I think to a more extreme point, Nick is the definition of a studio stuck in the 90s. All of their shows now airing tend to maintain that mentality of "irreverent gross out humor = Funny" and shows that somehow manage to slip past this censor are either cancelled or carelessly tossed across the network.

Anyway /rant. Do not want to turn this into a hate thread.

To which I wonder, were they not trying to find a new Ren And Stimpy in the 90s by commissioning Rockos Modern Life, Aaahh Real Monsters, The Angry Beavers, Cat Dog? Or trying to find a new Rugrats with The Wild Thornberrys, Rocket Power, As Told By Ginger?

This is a problem that goes way, way deeper than you'd think.

You mean they're not looking for the next Avatar?

They did, and it ended beautifully.

But as much as I want Nick to do better, it's pretty obvious that they rely heavily on childish humor based on farts and garbage and internet memes WHICH IS INTENDED FOR THE TARGET AUDIENCE

What makes toilet humor so appealing to kids?

Teddy, what I've seen of Sanjay and Craig and ESPECIALLY Breadwinners doesn't look like something I even would be remotely interested in. Granted, that's thanks to Enter, but I do remember Breadwinners having an episode with Sway Sway trying to give Jenny what is essentially a love drug.

You know, I have to wonder why Pit is obsessed with this site. It’s gonna ruin his life!

Has Nick been trying to find "next Spongebob or R&S"? (11)Has Nick been trying to find "next Spongebob or R&S"? (12) I often wonder what would've happened if Micah Wright had not fallen out of favor with the executives at Nick and Constant Payne had become a series.

Has Nick been trying to find "next Spongebob or R&S"? (13) Kids are naturally immature people.

We're already living through the second time that most of Nick's shows were slapsticky affairs that dabbled in toilet humor. The first time is now being fêted as Nick's Golden Age!

If you cross out all the stupidity and meme-like humor, you're then left with something remotely as boring as Arthur, and that's not real creative.

But to get back to the thread's point - I don't even really see what's wrong with Nick trying to find "the next Sponge Bob." For all I know, they could be meaning that it'd be a big hit like Sponge Bob is.

The nicktoons that I like, or have interest in, mostly come from 1991-2005 (basically, from Rugrats to Last Airbender). I should probably check out Korra and TMNT 2012.

Has Nick been trying to find "next Spongebob or R&S"? (43)they're not great, but I find myself still watching them. It's a good time waster

Yeah, Arthur's pretty bland..

to answer someone's question, when I say that Nick's trying to find the next Spongebob or R&S, I mean that they've been trying the same formula those two cartoons had, thinking that'll automatically generate the amount of success and fame. Maybe Nick should, I don't know, try something new..? At the time R&S came out, it was very different from the cartoons being made around the time. And all that show really was a throwback to fun cartoons from the past...with some toliet humor and creepiness thrown in there.

Then again, they could always copy anime or make 5 new reboots. That seems to get popularity these days.

Has Nick been trying to find "next Spongebob or R&S"? (45) I actually never really watched that show as a kid. If I ever had an experience with the characters it would've been the Living Books version...

As I said before, though, Nick was doing this in the 90s. They were approving shows like Rockos Modern Life, The Angry Beavers and Cat Dog to get a new Ren And Stimpy, and approving more Klasky Csupo shows to find a new Rugrats.

Well, they tried doing something animesque already, and we all know where that went.

Has Nick been trying to find "next Spongebob or R&S"? (47)the show took out a lot of the creativity the books had. It's like a 70s or 80s Soap opera with animal costumes lol. Mixed in with the cartoon's very special episodes about allergies, autism, abuse, divorce, etc. Yeach, because that DEFINITELY brings the ratings in.

you're right about Nick always been trying to duplicate the success of popular shows, but the ones you mentioned at least had some distinction between them and were actually trying. Though, the two main duo has always been popular..

I can't even call avatar American made. It's so influenced by anime that it should have been made in Japan lol.

In any case, tho', I don't think they would have been greenlit if Ren And Stimpy wasn't such a massive hit.

I said it earlier, but if Micah Wright hadn't gotten on Nick's bad side, Constant Payne would have been Nick's resident action adventure show. Think of that alternate universe.
