'Sandlot' star and Myrtle Beach-area resident faces new charge weeks after arrest (5)

MYRTLE BEACH— Tom Guiry, the actor who starred in the 1993 movie "The Sandlot," faces a new charge after his arrest near Myrtle Beach earlier this month.

Guiry, 43, was arrested June 2 on charges of third-degree assault and battery and malicious injury to personal property, but Horry County Police on June 21 added a charge of public disorderly conduct against him, according to online court records.

The incident that led to the actor's arrest happened on Winslow Avenue near the Burgess community, according to a county police report. The exact address was redacted from the report, but Guiry's home address is listed on the same street.

Authorities initially responded to a trespassing/disturbance call just after noon on June 2. Police found Guiry in the middle of the road asking about his wife's safety, according to the report.

The victim, whose information was redacted, then shouted to Guiry, "Really, my window's been shattered."

The report said Guiry responded by saying, "That sucks, man. I'll pay you back, I'm sorry, I'm gonna get you back."

The officer noticed that the windshield of a white Jeep was damaged. The victim told the officer that Guiry used a 35-pound dumbbell to smash it. Guiry also approached the victim's home door with a knife and rang the doorbell, according to the victim's account in the report.

At one point, the officer heard Guiry say, "I did it. I'm sorry man. I'm coming back to get you, (I'm) sorry brother, I'll pay you back."

Guiry was taken to the J. Reuben Long Detention Center and released the next day, according to online jail records.

He could not be reached for comment.

Horry County Police spokeswoman Mikayla Moskov would not say why Guiry was charged with another offense weeks after his arrest. Guiry is scheduled to appear in court on June 24.

The actor became well known for his role as Scotty Smalls in the popular baseball film, but he also appeared in "Lassie," "Black Hawk Down" and "Mystic River."

This is not Guiry's first time facing legal trouble. In 2013, he was accused of head-butting a police officer at a Houston airport after being told he was too drunk to board a plane, according to a CNN report.
